Project:

Sahbio

TerraSpectrum is a developer of SAHBIO Carbono®, a validated project that focuses on generating high-integrity voluntary carbon credits through the conservation and sustainable management of natural flooded savannas, wetlands, and gallery forests in the Colombian Orinoco.

The project covers

136,000

hectares

It prevents the emission of

5 million

tones of
CO2-eq

over 40 years

Owned by local landowners, the project promotes traditional sustainable land-use practices that conserve carbon in soils and vegetation

TerraSpectrum combines scientific methodologies, land cover analysis, and field monitoring to ensure transparent and robust measurement of carbon stocks and biodiversity

The Orinoco Watershed is one of the Eight Most Strategic Freshwater Systems in the World

Maps

The flooded savannas of the Orinoquia encompass 48% of Colombia's continental wetlands. They are a biodiversity hotspot and a strategic transition ecosystem linking the Andes, Orinoco basin, and the Amazon region through hydrological and ecological connectivity.

These savannas are undergoing rapid transformation due to expanding industrial agriculture (rice and exotic grases; 2.5% per year), and deforestation (3.5% per year).
